ARTIS T. ORE IN THE COMMUNITY
Artis Ore is frequently involved with community, religious and business related affairs by participating on Boards and Committees of many organizations past and present.
African American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) – As a former board member, Artis Ore was one of the founding members of this organization. The organization’s founding charter was to be an advocate for businesses that needed representation in the government and private sectors to obtain contract opportunities. The organization has expanded its reach to include the tri-state area, and includes the Hispanic and Asian communities. The Brain Trust, which preceded AACC, was its model.
The Carpenters Company – As an honored member, this organization is an outgrowth of the Carpenters Company of England, going back to the 13th Century.
The National Association of Minority Contractors of Philadelphia – Artis Ore was one of the early board members who were advocates for African-Americans in the construction industry.
Construction Technology Curriculum Advisory Committee for Community College of Philadelphia – Committee member.
The Spring Garden College Alumni Association (Defunct) – Alumni.
Urban League of Philadelphia – As a former board member, the Urban League of Philadelphia advocates social justice for all people.
St. Luke's Church – A former vestry member.
The Center For Urban Theological Studies (CUTS) – A former board member. CUTS was established over twenty years ago to provide formal educational opportunities for the religious community, and others who wanted to have a biblical based education leading to an Associates or Bachelors Degree. CUTS have graduated over 2,000 students who are presently providing ministry in six continents.
Operation Understanding – As a former board member, Artis Ore participated in selecting six African- American, and six Jewish High School juniors (three males and three females from each group) to participate in a one year program of cultural diversity. The kids would spend two weeks in Africa, two weeks in Israel, and the balance of the year getting to know one another and speaking at diverse gatherings to exalt the virtues of understanding of the other’s culture.
Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis & Education (AAYTE) – A former board member. Located on Ridge Avenue & School House Lane, AAYTE provides tennis instruction with 8 indoor and 8 outdoor tennis courts, life skill training, computer labs, classrooms for homework and reading programs, fitness programs, an expanded library, college SAT courses, and in-house seminar tours of colleges that are interested in the athletic and scholastic student. AAYTE also owns and operates the National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) to provide summer tennis instruction at approximately 70 recreational centers throughout Philadelphia.
The Black Tennis Foundation (BTF) – As a former committee member, under the guidance of Clarence Farmer, the BTF was established to provide guidance and financial support for young, aspiring tennis talent in Philadelphia.
The Founders Humanitarian Coalition – A former board member.
